AGM Update

On Wednesday, May 11, 2021 the AGM was held online virtually via Zoom. The old Board was acknowledged and thanked for all their efforts during very difficult times created by the Covid pandemic. The new Board was introduced and welcomed, challenging times lay ahead and we can only hope for a return to normal times in the not too distant future. After the AGM the Board convened in a meeting to elect the new Executive Board. The following Board members were elected as follows:

Kelly MacMillan – President (surdalefarms@telus.net)

Donna Scrannage – Vice President (dscrannage68@hotmail.com)

Lynda Atkinson – Secretary Treasurer (pacingartist@gmail.com)

The Executive is a very willing group of individuals who are donating their time and efforts to help promote and work in the best interest of standardbred racing in BC. They would gladly appreciate hearing from the members with any issues, suggestions or opportunities. Please feel free to email them directly at their email address beside their names. 

Changes to the Incentive Programs

The following recommendations were approved at our Board Meeting on Wednesday, May 5, 2021. These changes to the incentive programs were necessary due to reduced funding from the lack of slot allocations during the Casino closure with Covid 19. The plan would be to revisit these programs and restore them to pre Covid budgets should funding allow in 2022.

Broodmare Bonus *

  • To be funded at a rate of 75% of previous year’s budget.
  • Allocations for 2021 will be based on $300,000 as the total available.
  • Payable upon receipt of sufficient monthly allotments from TBC deposited into HRBC account.

Foal Incentive *

  • Adjusted to $1,500.00 per foal upon registration and completion of the BC New Foal Incentive form.
  • All applications to be submitted to HRBC by December 31., 2021.
  •  “Payable upon receipt of sufficient monthly allotments from TBC deposited into HRBC account.”

BC Bred Bonus *

  • To be funded at a rate of 75% of previous year’s budget.
  • The total adjusted budget is $125,250
  •  “Payable upon receipt of sufficient monthly allotments from TBC deposited into HRBC account.”

HRBC * All monies will be paid upon allocation of anticipated funding from TBC and the deposit of funds from TBC in HRBC account on a monthly basis in 2021.

2021 ELECTION RESULTS

Here are the Results of the Election for Directors on the Board of Harness Racing B.C. Society for 2021/2022.

Votes were verified by Garry Woods (Judge), Robert Linford (GPEB) along with Diane Pennington (Returning Officer), Nigel Holmes, Barbara Landers and Heather Davies (acting on behalf of Jeff Waltenburgh). A total of 94 Votes were counted with 4 ballots noted as “spoiled.”

The new Board of Directors will commence their terms after the AGM which will be held on Tuesday, May 11, 2021.
